Faux
Finishing School Info a.k.a.
"When considering a school..."
Faux
painting school owner and instructor, Brian Bullard has over 23 years of
experience in the decorative painting trade; in the field in Europe, the
United States, and the classroom.
Tip: always
ask a painting "instructor" where they learned the trade & how long they have
been active in it. You should ensure that your instructor is still active
in the field.
Our faux painting classes are in
our commercial studio, it's a well lit, and comfortable working environment.
Tip: Not all
"schools" have an actual classroom, ask if the classes are in a studio,
garage, hotel, etc. Look for wide angle images of the students painting
in the classroom on the website, as well as several images of finished
faux work. Note if they are painting at table or in a crowded space.
Everything is supplied in class,
the tools, paints, even food and drinks, nothing to buy. We are one of
the only "non product" schools in the nation, you can buy and use almost
any local paint when you leave.
Tip: always
ask a "school" if a specific finishing product is used, how you will obtain
it after classes, and its cost. We do not promote specific brands nor do
we retail, our objective is teaching you on locally accessible materials.
We get three types of faux students: those
who have never done faux painted and want to do it for themselves or for
business, people with experience who want to learn our methods, and those
who started a decorative painting business and realized that they needed
to go to get an education in the trade.
Tip: always
get the right training before "diving in". I will teach you to price faux
finishing properly according to your skill level and local cost of living.
You will leave class with durable,
lightweight, and attractive samples, and if you fly in we will wrap them
in plastic so you can take them as carry on.
Tip: ask a
"school" what material you will be painting on, if it is durable and lightweight,
and how you will get your faux samples home.
We are in South
Carolina. 95% of our students come from other states, even other countries!
These
students choose us because of what we offer, if you are considering a future
in the decorative arts, there is a lot more than a plane ticket riding
on it.
Tip: most
fly here round trip through deals on "Expedia.com" and other internet resources.
If you stay at our two nearby hotels we will pick you up and return you
daily.
